Fire

Responsibilities

Early and reliable fire detection is vitally important for personal safety, and for those responsible for a property (other than your own private home) there are legal stipulations.

In the case of non-domestic/commercial properties it is a legal requirement for the property to be fitted with suitable fire detectors and fire alarms. It is also necessary to ensure that they are properly maintained.

For the person responsible for fire safety on a site or building it is important to be able to demonstrate he/she has acted properly to source a competent system provider.

DCA are registered under the BAFE SP203-1 scheme for Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems - see the standards section on this page.

System Types

The right fire alarm depends on your particular circumstances but will likely be one of the main types:

  • Conventional - a building is divided into zones, the alarm panel will show the zone in which an alert occurs.
  • Addressable (wired) - each fire detection device is uniquely addressable, this enables the fire panel to show a more precise location.
  • Addressable (wireless) - as above but uses a secure wireless link between detection device and the fire alarm panel. Installed in situations where cabling isn’t possible or appropriate, for example, churches and historic buildings.
